BUSES AND PARKING: Contact the RTA at (630) 836-7000 for schedules to and from the courthouse or judicial center. You may park free in the west parking lot behind the Kane County Courthouse. Ample parking is available at the Kane County Judicial Center.
ATTIRE: Jurors should dress appropriately in keeping with court room decorum.
SECURITY: When you enter the building, you will be required to go through a magnetometer. All briefcases, purses and packages will be X-rayed by Security. Knives, firearms, cameras, chemical sprays, metal belts, scissors, work tools, video and audio recorders are prohibited in the courthouse due to security regulations. You may be asked to return to your vehicle any items which could be used as a potential weapon.
LENGTH OF SERVICE: Length of service as a juror is one day while waiting to see if you are selected is a juror for a specific trial. If you are selected is a juror, service will continue until the trial has been completed. This could be up to one or, in rare cases, more than one week. The work day during jury service is usually 9:00 am until 4:00 pm with at least one hour for lunch.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the event of inclement weather, information as to the possible closing of Kane County Courts may be obtained by listening to the following AM radio stations: WAUR (Aurora)-930, WBIG(Aurora)-1280, WFXW(Geneva)-1480 or WFMN(Elgin)1410
JUROR RIGHTS: You cannot be discharged by your employer for responding to a juror summons, so long as you provide a copy of this summons to your employer immediately upon receipt.
JUROR COMPENSATION: You will be paid $10.00 each day you report to the Kane County Courthouse plus 20 cents per mile based on round trip mileage from your address to the courthouse. Payment is computed on the last day of your service week, and a check will be mailed to your home address within 14 working days.
AVAILABLE FACILITIES: There are restaurants close by, a cafeteria in the building, or you may bring a lunch. A variety of vending machines for soft drinks and food are available.
